New Music, New Workout, New Newlywed You!

Ready for a new newlywed you? Working out is not only a physical thing, but it’s a mental thing too! In order to push yourself physically, you first need to mentally encourage yourself and think positively in order to reach your fitness goals! Do you find yourself walking out of the gym (or limping!) and you feel so much more mentally refreshed and happier than how you felt when walking in? Exercising has such a fantastic effect on your mental state-of-mind!

After having instructed various aerobics classes for many years, I will tell you that there is one factor that can completely alter your mindset, and ultimately control your workout, and that is listing to music while working on your fitness! I absolutely cannot step foot into a gym without my ipod, and if I forget it, then I forgo my workout for the day!  I wanted to share a few tips, tricks, and songs with you, and I hope you’ll share yours with me too!

If you have not yet invested in an iPod or some mobile musical device, don’t worry, Christmas is coming! Hint, hint to your hubby! There have been so many studies conducted to show the correlation between listening to music and working out, here’s a good study to check out.  Your heart rate increases, your energy level is up, and you’re pushing yourself harder! The way your body subconsciously responds to music, does wonders for your disposition, intermittent mood swings, especially during pms!

So–if you are in a rut, or going through the motions on the elliptical, here’s the deal! Number one- change up your play list! I have recently dedicated techno music to my cardio workouts and practice intervals! Try to maintain a pace that is in sync with the tempo of your music, so this way you’re switching it up from song-to-song!

Intervals are not only a big key to burning fat, but will keep you focused and concentrating on the amount of effort you’re putting into your workout! The more you focus and get into your workout, the better your new newlywed you results are going to be!
Here are some of my top fav cardio songs:

  1. Black Eyed Peas- Pump It!
  2. Black Eyed Peas- Hey Mama!
  3. Rusted Root- Ecstacy
  4. Cascada- Evacuate the Dance Floor
  5. Christina Aguilera – Dirty
  6. Flo Rida – Low
  7. Petey Pablo – Show Me The Money
  8. Pitbull  and Enrique Iglesias- I Like It
  9. Lady Gaga- Bad Romance
  10. Usher – OMG

What songs are on your gym play list…any tried and true winners?  Share them with us with a comment! We’d love to hear how you’re creating a new newlywed you.

Newlywed Advice for the Holidays: Shop Now!

Newlywed Advice for the Holidays

We have some newlywed advice for the holidays ladies! I realize that  it’s still October, but a newlywed can never be too prepared for her first holiday season as a Mrs..  Your first Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanzaa with your mate is a memory you will cherish forever, and planning ahead can allow you so much more time to truly enjoy it.  Read on to learn our tips for saving time and money (and quite possibly your sanity) in the coming months!

The pros for shopping ahead of the holiday season are endless:

– You can take time to find just the right gift for each person in both of your families instead of settling on some last minute choices.  Oh yes…there are instantly twice as many people to shop for now that you’re married, but the upside is there’s usually twice as many presents to receive!

– Early shopping allows you to take advantage of online private sale sites such as www.HauteLook.com, where you can buy luxury gifts at a fraction of retail prices.  These sites usually have a one to two week shipping lag from time of purchase, so they work better for early bird shoppers than procrastinators.

– Starting early can allow you to make personalized gifts for friends and family.  This is not only budget friendly, but can be really fun.  Some ideas for hand-made holiday goodies include bath balls, flavored olive oils in fancy bottles or infused vodka for festive martinis.

-If you have gifts purchased well ahead of the holidays, you have so much more time to enjoy wrapping them.  Imagine listening to carols and sipping mulled wine or eggnog as you leisurely wrap gifts over a few evenings instead of frantically trying to wrap fifty gifts in one evening!

– Extra time around the holidays can be used to decorate your home, go sledding, attend a cocktail party, hang out under the mistletoe with your hubby or to take care of others in need.  Here’s a list of the Top 5 Holiday Charities where twenty minutes of your spare time can result in a huge difference in a child’s life.

The list could go on and on, but the main idea is that starting to think about what you’re getting who well before you need to has some definite benefits, especially for newlyweds balancing two families (or more) for the first time this holiday season.

Do you have any tips newlywed advice for the holidays you’d like to share with our readers?  Please leave us a comment today!

Newlywed Recipes You Will Fall In Love With!

Newlywed recipes

Looking for newlywed recipes? I am definitely not Betty Crocker in the kitchen, so it’s a good thing for me that my husband enjoys cooking, and even more fortunate for me… he is an amazing cook! I have been getting much more comfortable trying out my newlywed skills in the kitchen, and I especially don’t mind when I’m exploring a new recipe cause then my hubby would never know if I screwed it up or not!

I have a few cook books at home, but of course they’re collecting dust since I generally turn to online suggestions such as cooks.com and of course the woman who makes it look so easy, Rachael Ray! I actually prefer getting recipes from my family and friends, so now that we’re enjoying the season’s fall foods, and (dare I say it!?) rapidly approaching the holidays, I wanted to share some of my fall fav’s with you, and I hope that you will do the same!

Let’s begin with Numero Uno: The Cocktail!
Pumpkin Pie Martini: Here’s my new BFF, and I hope she will be yours too!
Ingredients:

  • Ice cubes
  • 2 ounces (1/4 cup) vanilla vodka
  • 2 ounces (1/4 cup) crème de cacao
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • Whipped cream, for garnish

Directions:
1.  Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Add the vanilla vodka, crème de cacao, heavy cream and pumpkin pie spice and shake well.
2.  Dip the rims of 2 martini glasses into a bowl of whipped cream. Strain the cocktail into the glasses and indulge!
Servings: 2 / Prep Time: 5 Minutes

Ginger Pumpkin Bread: Excellent for breakfast or dessert!
Ingredients:
1 ½ sticks melted butter (12 tablespoons)
2 ½ cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. salt
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 can canned pumpkin (15 oz.)
3 eggs
Sugar glaze (optional, see below)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Butter and flour two 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 loaf pans (or spray with Baker’s Joy). In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, ginger and salt. In a large bowl, whisk together both sugars, pumpkin, melted butter, and eggs. Add flour mixture and stir until just combined.
2. Divide batter evenly between the loaf pans. Bake 45-50 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in center of loaves comes out clean. Let cool ten minutes and invert loaves onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
3. Once cool, glaze if desired. Combine 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar with 2 – 3 tablespoons of water in a liquid measuring cup. Stir until glaze is smooth and thick, with no lumps.  Drizzle over loaves and let set 15 minutes prior to serving.

Butternut Squash Casserole: Don’t knock this one till you try it!
