Baby It’s Cold Outside: 4 Things To Do With Your Newlywed Spouse

Things To Do With Your Newlywed Spouse

Looking for things to do with your newlywed spouse? As arctic temperatures sweep the U.S., I think we can all utter a collective “BRRRRRRRR!” No need to let the cold spoil your newlywed time.  If you’re stuck inside on evenings and weekends, use that time to your advantage.

Organize – The beginning of Spring is the last time I feel like cleaning.  I want to be outside soaking up the sunshine!  Use your freezing winter weekends to organize your closets, kitchen cabinets or any other parts of your house that are causing chaos and possibly a few squabbles.  This way when Spring does arrive you’ll have your house in order and your weekend calendar free for fun things!

Play Games – Too cold to possibly go out for a date (seriously, no one wants to put on a dress and then multiple scarves, a parka, hat and boots…it does not feel sexy)?  Break out some board games with your spouse.  You can play by the conventional rules or mix things up with drinking versions of twister and scrabble or play naughty Jenga.  Laughing together will make you both feel warmer and closer to each other at the end of the night.

Dream – I love to dream about what my husband and I will do when the weather is warm.  Take picnics, visit the national zoo, go boating, plan a beach weekend with friends…the list is endless.  If you can get your husband to help you “dream up” some warm weather activities with you, the happy result is a list of fun to-dos that will actually get done this year. Tape your list to the fridge to remind you that Spring is coming and to help you make time for your planned activities on the calendar.

Work Out – Nothing warms you up like a serious work out!  Browse Amazon for a new DVD (I’m loving Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown), and when it arrives prepare to break a sweat.  Come spring break time and swimsuit season, you’ll be really glad that you did your Winter workouts instead of sitting on the couch with cocoa.

How are you handling the cold as a newlywed couple? We’d love to hear your suggestions for things to do with your newlywed spouse this winter.

Winter Beauty Dos

Each season launches a new set of beauty trends and challenges.  This winter, try a few of these beauty dos to keep your newlywed glow going!

Do try a dark nail polish.  Anything from deep reds to mixed taupes are way in right now.  We like Essie’s Smokin’ Hot , since it goes with anything you’re wearing from work, to play, to ski slopes!
Do indulge in an intensive lip balm. Major protection for minor investment!  No one wants dry cracked lips…ever.

Do relieve & heal dry skin with a super rich cream. Apply right after your shower when you’re still damp for maximum moisture retention!
Do avoid dry winter hair by following these 5 tips! We know winter winds and hats can wreak havoc on even the most cooperative locks.
Do exfoliate all that dry winter skin right off with this body scrub. Bye-bye snow flakey skin and hello gorgeous!
Do try an icy shade of eye shadow. What better time of year to try something shimmery and cool toned?
Do save face….literally.  Wrap yourself up in a fabulous scarf set to keep body heat in and your face safe from freezing temperatures!

What are you winter beauty do’s? Did we miss any major ones?  Please leave us a comment and let us know!

Post-Holiday Pep Talk!

Post-Holiday Pep Talk

Get ready for a post-holiday pep talk! Are you sitting around in a post-holiday daze?  Well, snap out of it!  Now is the perfect time to bang out all of those projects you meant to do last year. l If you follow our suggestions, you’ll be busy all Winter and totally care free when the warm weather arrives in the Spring.

Organize – Are your closets and cabinets completely out of control?  Use the dark early evenings to get things organized.  Not only will you feel better, but you’ll know exactly where everything is in your home, which will make doing other projects much easier.

Donate – Do you have a pile of unused gifts from this holiday season (and others)?  Donate them and any of the items you discarded from your closets to a good cause.

Sew/Tailor –Looking at the pants you bought on sale last year and still haven’t had tailored?  Now’s the time to collect all articles of clothing that need some mending or hemming and take them to a tailor or sew them yourself.  The result of your efforts: “new” clothes in your closet that you didn’t have to buy!

Deep clean – Why save cleaning for Spring when you want to be outside enjoying the weather?  Make a checklist of what needs to be done in your home and split it with your spouse.  I find that having a reward for the completion of the list makes things much more fun. Decide to go out to the new restaurant you’ve been dying to try or to the movies as a reward for finishing your cleaning.

Doctors Appointments – What’s worse than going to the dentist or OB? Going to sit in their offices for hours when you could be playing tennis or soaking up the sunshine.  Schedule your (and your hubby’s) year’s worth of doctors appointments for January-March and then you’ll not only be healthy, you’ll be free to enjoy the weather.

We hope post-holiday pep talk gets you motivated and through the Winter slump! If name change was on your to-do list last year, we can help with that. Check out the MissNowMrs name change app or online service to save 13 hours of hassle!

10 Fun Things To Do This Winter As Newlyweds

Things To Do This Winter As Newlyweds

Looking for things to do this winter as newlyweds? As the fun of the holidays begins to fade and winter sets in for the long haul, it’s easy to feel a little blah. Here are ten fun ideas for newlyweds to make winter more bearable and even fun!

1. Go Sledding! Dig out your sleds and snow pants and head outside! Better yet, invite a few couples to join you in your winter fun. You’ll feel 10 years old in a matter of minutes. Then try #4 on our list to warm up.

2. Check into a Bed & Breakfast this weekend. If you’re feeling a little house-bound, a quick getaway will boost your spirits and give you some quality time with your husband.

3. Go shopping! Now is the time to scoop up cashmere sweaters and other great winter duds at after Christmas sales. Ann Taylor, for example, is having a great sale.

4. Sit by the fire and sip cocoa. Indulge in the ultimate winter warm up!

5. Start a new hobby, like learning to knit. Knitty.com has great ideas for beginners.

6. Bikram Yoga (aka Hot Yoga). The opposite of the freezing cold is doing yoga poses in a hundred and five degree class. Not only will you warm up, you’ll sweat off all those Christmas cookies!

7. Plan your flowers/planters/garden. Nothing makes Spring feel closer than looking at catalogs of plants and envisioning what your porch or yard could look like. Check out White Flower Farms for ideas.

8. Ice skate. Even if you’ve never been before, ice skating is really fun and can be a great way to get some fresh air, exercise and a few laughs all at the same time. Look for a local rink to take your hubby or friends to.

9. Host a slumber party for your girlfriends. Get in some great girl time before temperatures rise and everyone suddenly has plans. Order pizza, do face masks and watch a chick flick or two!

10. Get a pedicure. Just because you’re wearing socks every day, doesn’t mean your toes have to suffer. Pick a sizzling summer shade to instantly feel warmer.
