Mervis Holiday Trunk Show: Engagement Rings, First Holiday Gifts & More

Are you excited for the Mervis holiday trunk show? The holidays are here!  Now is the time to start selecting the perfect gifts for your loved ones and possibly hinting to your significant other regarding a few sparkling items that would be a joy to receive.  My very first Christmas gift from my husband was a set of solitaire earrings.  I remember the surprise and delight as I opened the box and how happy I felt and still feel anytime I wear them.

If you’re unsure what you might want this holiday season…read on for a few ideas whether you’re dating, engaged, newlywed or happily married for years.

Diamonds Make The Perfect Gift! I don’t know a single woman who doesn’t like diamonds, so they are always a spectacular yet safe selection for a holiday gift. Jewelry is highly sentimental gift that will be cherished and quite possibly passed to future generations.  Earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings can all be worn year round and come in every possible style and price point.  Finding a reputable jeweler is the key to stress free holiday shopping.  Mervis Diamonds is the leading diamond importer in the Washington D.C. area and they strive to deliver the finest quality diamonds at the best possible prices.  Pop by their trunk shows December 5-7th to peruse the latest and greatest pieces from over 20 designer collections.

It’s Engagement Season!  Did you know that over 40% of engagements happen between now and Valentine’s Day?!  If you’re a gentlemen trying to discover the perfect ring for your future bride, a jewelry trunk show is a perfect place to start.  You can go under the premise of Hannukkah or Christmas present shopping and then casually ask her opinions on the amazing array of rings displayed at Mervis.  She’ll be even less likely to notice your covert operation if you take her for drinks beforehand!

Important Research! Do you think your significant other is thinking about popping the question?  If so, it’s high time for you to do a bit of “research” into your perfect ring.  Grab a couple  of girlfriends and have your fingers sized as you try on different cuts and styles of rings at Mervis.  You may love the intricate beauty of Tacori or the simple sophistication of Memoire.  Whatever strikes your fancy, you’ll be prepared if a few subtle questions are asked AND your friends will know in case a certain someone turns to them for help.
Commemorate Milestones Romantically! Are you celebrating your first Christmas or Hannukkah as newlyweds or as expectant parents?  Diamond jewelry can serve as a timeless reminder of the big moments in life.  Every time you wear a particular necklace or earrings you will think of when they were given and the joyous event behind the gift. Firsts are not the only reason for jewelry by any means….you should always celebrate years spent together in any number as well as the joys life holds for you and your family.
There are endless reasons to consider diamond jewelry this season, so RSVPing for the Mervis trunk show is a must!

Kate Spade’s Bridal Shop: For Brides & Newlyweds

We adore Kate Spade…well EVERYTHING, but are especially pleased with her online bridal shop this season!  Whether you’re shopping for a rehearsal dress, to-die-for wedding heels or the perfect bridesmaid’s gifts you’re sure to be delighted.  The quality of material and attention to detail are what make these items perfect purchases. I particularly like the interior inscriptions on the bracelets.  They’re like little secret notes to your friends or yourself.

Attention newlyweds in the midst of making holiday wish lists: there are great gifts in the bridal shop for you too!  Celebrate your newlywed status with an “I do” necklace or Mrs. earrings.  They’re lovely, whimsical and something you’ll treasure through the years of your marriage.  On the decorating side of things, there are fanciful ring holders, his and her highball glasses, and engraved photo frames.  While you’re making your list of favorites, you may want to earmark a few items for engagement presents…as New Year’s is right around the corner!
What are your favorite items in the Kate Spade bridal shop?  We would love to hear from you in a comment!

MissNowMrs & The Married Name Game in Brides Magazine

As June brides come home and settle into newlywed life in July, name change becomes a popular topic.  Should they, shouldn’t they?  And what are the available name change options?  If they do decide to transition to Mrs. how and where do they get started?

Brides  magazine was thoughtful enough to anticipate these questions and wrote a great article: The Name Game in their latest issue.  If you’re unsure which name change option will work for you, they suggested playing the Married Name Game.  Our favorite quote about the interactive quiz? “Brides staffers found it remarkably accurate”!!

They also suggested using MissNowMrs.com to streamline the filing process if you do opt to become a Mrs.  We’re incredibly pleased to be listed as a married name change resource in their magazine and can’t wait to help any bride avoid the 13 hour hassle of legal paperwork.
Thanks Brides!  We heart you!

3 Gowns We Love at Nordstrom Wedding Suites

Have you ever visited a Nordstrom wedding suite?  Each of their 18 suites has a different selection of bridal gowns, so you can peruse a unique assortment at every location.  Below we’ve highlighted three of their amazing gowns along with the weddings and accessories that we envision pairing with them.

Artsy bride, married within the vines of a winery, or somewhere on a Mediterranean coast
Classic clad groom
Minimal makeup and jewelry needed, but  one could add a fun shoe (probably a wedge in a bright color) and a colorful headpiece. A cool bangle in the laid back wedding colors would work as well.
They are definitely honeymooning on a road trip through the southwest

Married in the city, at a funky museum
All members of the bridal party (guys included) are wearing different color Wayfarers for photos
This bride doesn’t need a lot of flash or jewelry, this dress speaks for itself
Her groom is in suspenders and funny socks
Definitely honeymooning in Miami, on a yacht
Their dog was the best man
After the wedding, she’ll remove that tulle, and dye the lace for use at a cocktail party

Tied the knot at an upscale venue in San Francisco.
She’s going to add a bejeweled belt to match her headband
He’s sporting a luxe custom tux
They have a small wedding, but it’s exclusive: an amazing dinner cooked by someone famous and designer gift bags

She’s marrying someone who made a big splash in Silicon Valley, now they are retired
They are honeymooning for 30 days minimum
I would change the flowers to make it all greenery and succulents, which the groom is wearing too

Are one of these dresses perfect for you or an engaged friend?  We’d love to hear your thoughts in a comment, and don’t forget to pop into a Nordstrom Wedding Suite for more unique finds!

Should you be interested in changing your name. Don’t miss our 20 step name change checklist. It’s super helpful.

Wedding Dresses: Pre and Post Wedding Advice

Pre and post wedding advice is important, especially when it comes to wedding dresses. Are you recently engaged and looking for your wedding dress?  There are so many dresses to choose from, at so many different stores and at so many different prices!  Feeling overwhelmed?  Here’s a tip: check out PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com to find your dream dress at an amazing price.  This site has over 20,000 new, sample sale and used designer wedding dresses for sale.  Their site is gorgeous and allows you to search by designer, size, price point. location, and silhouette!  You can also browse for bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dresses and accessories.

Newlywed and wondering what to do with your gown? You can preserve it for posterity (mine’s currently in a lovely museum quality box in my closet.) Or, you can pass your dress along to another bride.  Over 60% of brides say they will consider re-selling their wedding dresses after saying “I do”.  Interested in making a little cash back post-wedding?  You can list your dress for a one-time fee of $25, and it will remain posted on PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com until it sells.  There are no other fees or commissions to pay!

I’m curious…are any of you readers planning to sell your dress or considering purchasing a used gown?  Did our pre and post wedding advice on dresses help you? Let me know in a comment.
