In-law Visits as a Newlywed: 4 Things to Keep in Mind!

Some of us are very fortunate to have a great relationship with our In-laws, and some of us, well…try to avoid the visits as much as possible! For me, there is definitely travel time involved, so we try to see each side of the family every month and a half, and this has proven to be a healthy balance for all parties involved! Regardless of your situation, here are a few things to keep in mind so that you and your spouse can truly enjoy each visit. Remember, you’re in this together, and family members are part of the package deal when you get married!

1.  Frequency: The first item of importance that you should establish with your spouse is how frequent you would like to make plans to visit your families. It is best to come to an agreement on this right from the start, so that you’re not faced with re-occurring arguments years down the road. Whether you have to travel five minutes, or five hours, decide how often you would like to visit with your families, and alternate traveling to see them and having them travel to see you. This will also hopefully establish acceptable visit times so that you’re not receiving the random drop-in!

2.  Keep A Positive Outlook: Your spouse loves you, and so does your extended family! Be thankful for what you have and enjoy the people in your life that love and care about you. Most of all, don’t put on a show, be yourself! You’re not playing a role here, you are the wife, and you are fabulous (obviously…otherwise he wouldn’t have asked you to marry him)!

3.  Agree to Disagree: Just because they aren’t like your family or they live a different lifestyle and have different interests, doesn’t make it wrong. It’s OK! This is where your spouse came from, and you love your spouse, right?! Besides this makes life interesting, and makes for good stories to share with friends and family!

4.  It is What It Is: If you’ve married a real “momma’s boy”, recognize this and know this cannot be changed.  Be mindful that more frequent family visits may be in store for you, so learn to embrace it! Often times there seems to be an initial barrier between you and your mother-in-law, for other reasons than the obvious (you’re now the woman in his life), so let’s not make the situation worse. Love her for who she is and open up to a relationship; just make sure that when it comes to your spouse, he knows that you should come first!

How much time do you and your spouse set aside for family visits?! What is your relationship with your spouse’s family? We want to hear the good and the bad, so please share!

MissNowMrs.com = Savings on Gas Money

How can a name change service create savings on gas money? I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price of gas this morning on my way to work thinking about how much it must cost all over our country right now.  No matter where in the U.S. you live, I’m sure you’re being hit hard with rising gas prices. It’s ridiculous to see the prices go up each week (…for some of us, each day) with little to no relief in sight, right?

Unfortunately, we ALL have to continue to purchase gas.  We can’t just stop driving to work, to the grocery store, or to anywhere else we HAVE to go each day, but what we can do is cut back on how much unnecessary driving we do.  Our easy online name change service will help you do just that. Cut back on the amount of driving you have to do to a number of government agencies to complete your married name change. Seriously, check out the list of name-change forms we provide for you along with step-by-step instructions to file your name change with (most) agencies via MAIL.

What this means for YOU:

1. TIME SAVED: You’ll save yourself TIME not having to research the name change process or wait in lines at government offices for agencies that allow you to notify them via mail.
2. STRESS-FREE: There’s no need to worry about filing mishaps due to out-dated forms, fees and instructions or having to take a day off from work just to spend it waiting around at each office.  Save those PTO days for a vacation or a long weekend getaway!
3. SAVINGS ON GAS MONEY: This is a no-brainer…you’ll save at least a half-tank of gas by using our service since you’re not driving all over town to file your name change in-person with each agency!
Nearly 90% of brides change their names after marriage, so I ask you, “why not do it the easy way and keep name change hassles out of your newlywed life?!” That being said, we know you’ll still be driving around in your day-to-day routine, so we thought we would let you in on the secret to finding the lowest gas prices in your area.

Have the rising gas prices forced you to take a look at how much you drive? Tell us about some changes you have made in your daily routines, to cut back on the money spent at the pumps!

Spring Fever: How to Help Your Spouse Feel Better

help your spouse feel better

Desperate to help your spouse feel better? With the sudden weather and temperature changes, it’s possible that you or your spouse might come down with a cold.  They may not admit it, but most men are reduced to infants when they get sick. So, if you’re dealing with a sick spouse here are a few ideas to help you help him feel better!

Make Chicken Soup – Medical studies have shown that this 800+ year old cold remedy actually works!  Here’s a quick yet amazing recipe for homemade chicken noodle soup.  Your sicker half will appreciate the soup AND the effort you put into making it for them!

Get Them to Take a Day Off – Your spouse may be saving his PTO, but nobody wins when a sick person comes into work.  Have your significant other d stay home and rest for a day to ensure a speedy recovery.  You can always threaten them with a doctor’s visit if they keep going to work and continue to run themselves down. The threat of the doctor almost always works.

Set Up a Vaporizer – If you don’t already own one, it’s smart to purchase a vaporizer.  For as little as $11 you can make breathing easier and decrease the amount of congestion/mucus in your spouse’s chest.  Don’t have time to run out for a vaporizer?  Rub your spouse down with Vicks Vapor Rub instead.

Stockpile Hot Beverages – Did you know that drinking hot tea (or other hot beverages) increases the temperature of your throat, which impairs viral replication? Make your loved one some soothing tea with honey to help them kick a nasty virus and feel better faster.

What are your secrets to help your spouse feel better?  Do you have any tried and true remedies? We’d love for you to share them in a comment.

5 Fast Healthy Newlywed Dinners

During the weeknights, after getting home from a long day of work, the last thing that I care to do is cook. This has become like a second job, as I often times find myself running to the grocery store every night, grabbing what we need for dinner, and then throwing something together. More often than not, these un-planned dinners are not on the “under 500 calorie” menu either! In trying to eat healthy and maintain weight (which by the way is getting increasingly harder the older I get) I have realized these last-minute-meals are just not cutting it! Not to mention the fact that if dinner is not planned out, the drive-through on the way home looks very appealing and way too convenient! After deciding to try out a new approach and do all of the grocery shopping for the week, on Sundays, my husband and I are not only eating healthier, but we now have more time in the evenings to enjoy one another’s company.  I wanted to share some of the simple weeknight dinner recipes that I have tried, that are not only delicious, but calorie conscious and time-savers as well! I believe you’ll love them too!

Beer-Battered Fish Tacos with Tomato & Avocado Salsa –  30 minutes/209 Calories/29 g protein
Skillet Pork and Peppers – 5 Reasons to love this one:  22 minutes/380 Calories/18 g Fat/2 g Fiber/20 g Protein
Spring Chicken Salad – Make sure to let your hubby know that this salad includes meat and potatoes!
Chili-Rubbed Steak and Pan Salsa – 20 minutes/Serves 2/174 Calories
Fettuccini and Sweet Italian Sausage Alfredo – 20 minutes! This recipes give you alternatives for a healthier pasta- 27% less calories, 55% less saturated fat, 27% less sodium, check it out!

With Spring just around the corner, and dare I say it…. swim suit season approaching, it is important to keep up with your healthy living habits! Do you have any healthy, fast dinner tips that you and your spouse practice during the week nights? If you have some interesting recipes that you can’t live without, please do share!

Newlywed Rainy Day Fashion 411

rainy day fashion

How are you set for rainy day fashion? With March comes the promise of Spring and usually a great deal of rain.  Instead of letting the precipitation depress you, use the rain as an excuse to indulge in some cute accessories and outerwear! Here are a few of our rainy day favorites:

Cute boots- Every girl needs to keep her feet dry, so why settle for a boring pair of goulashes?  Try a super cute pair of brightly colored boots, or even up the ante for a designer pair.

Umbrellas – Rihanna sang an entire song about these marvelous inventions and now you can own an umbrella with her lyrics on it!  Not so into lyrical umbrellas?  Then show off your personality with a mod monogrammed version.

Raincoats – What better excuse to purchase a new coat than the rainy beginning of Spring?  Invest in a classic trench coat that will work over all of your business attire and still look fresh over an Easter dress.  You can also keep dry and cozy with a floral number that reminds everyone around you of the benefit of all the rain…flowers!

Rain bonnets – Okay, so maybe only your grandma owns a rain bonnet, but it’s not the worst idea to have an emergency one to pull out of your purse during a surprise storm (as long as you don’t know anybody around you).

Hats – Great for keeping your head dry and disguising all the frizz that comes with high humidity. Look for a fashionable, yet functional rain hat that won’t break the bank or get you laughed out of the office.  Feeling funky?  Try this a retro 20’s hat to add some color and fun to a gray day.

What are your favorite rainy day fashion accessories?  Do you have a great rain-related outfit to tell us about? Please leave a comment.
