Lady Gaga Intends to Change Her Name After Marriage

Lady Gaga name change

Lady Gaga name change?! What’s this? Lady Gaga, who’s real name Stefani Germanotta, has announced that she will take fiancé Taylor Kinney’s last name after their marriage…making her the future Mrs. Stefani Kinney!  As a star know for her extreme fashion taste and publicity stunts, it is interesting to see her do something so conventional as change her maiden name to her maiden name.

The fact that Lady Gaga is 29 and a celebrity would skew her towards keeping her maiden name, but she has also been quoted as being “old fashioned” about love and she is technically known by her stage name.  Gaga is on the celebrity name-change train along with Angelina Jolie Pitt, Amal Clooney and Ashley Simpson.

Do the name change choices of these prominent women show an increased preference for women to change their names or are they in keeping with the fact that 88.6.% of U.S. women change their names after marriage?

It’s an interesting question, and I believe data is starting to show that the mindset of millennial brides is different from those of Gen X and Gen Y.  Many site the idea of changing their names as a way to show that they are “all in” in their marriages.

Curious how to change your name after marriage? The MissNowMrs app or online service can save you 13 hours of stress and hassle!

Married at First Sight’s Jamie Otis Changes Name

Did you hear about Married at First Sight’s Jamie Otis changes name? A year after her marriage, Jamie Otis took her spouse’s last name of Hehner.  Why did she choose to change her name after marriage?  Much like any other bride, Jamie had a few factors that influenced her name change decision.  Not knowing her father made her less attached to her maiden name, and therefore less inclined to keep it as a married woman.  She also cites that she wants to have the same last name as her children, when she has them.

Another interesting married name change factor: the “final commitment effect”, meaning her name change shows that she is completely committed to a relationship started on a socially experimental show: Married at First Sight.  More and more brides today are seeing married name change as a way to show that they’re “all in” in their marriages.  It’s an interesting new name change factor.  If you’re curious which married name option is right for you, try playing the MarriedNameGame!

We LOVE how Jamie surprised her husband with her name change on their anniversary!  She put her name change notification from Social Security in a small box and had him open it last.  He cried and she cried after he opened the box and realized they now shared a last name…how adorable is that?

Angelina Changes to Her Married Name, Surprising the World with a Semi-Conventional Switch

Angelina Changes to Her Married Name

Shocked Angelina changes to her married name? Every time the world believes it understands Angelina Jolie, she does something unconventional.  Now she’s surprising the press by doing something semi-conventional: Angelina changes her married name.  Angelina has made two high profile uses of the name Angelina Jolie Pitt recently, which indicates she’s made the switch mentally and most likely legally.
Taking two last names is a very popular name change choice for newlyweds in 2015, and it makes sense for Angelina.  This option allows the star to keep the maiden name associated with her early work and take on her husband’s famous name.  More importantly, her last name will now match those of her six children.  Her age also plays a factor, as most women over 35 tend to keep their maiden names in some way.

The other name change trending upwards with brides this year is taking a maiden name as a middle name.  This name change options also allows women to hold onto their maiden names but not have to say them at every introduction.  Curious what name change option is right for you?  Play the Married Name Game and let its patent-pending algorithm help determine the married name that is perfect for you!

Ashlee Simpson’s Married Name Change

There’s nothing like a new year to spark newlyweds’ need to change to their new married names!  Have you heard about Ashless Simpson’s married name change? Following her November nuptials with Evan Ross, Ashlee Simpson is changing her maiden name to the married name of Ross-Naess.  Her husband, Evan’s legal last name is Naess, but he is know professionally by his mother’s last name of Ross.  The family elected to combine both names with a hyphen and all have the same name.

While her sister, Jessica Simpson, was the first to announce wanting to change to her married name, Ashlee looks to be the Simpson making a new married name official in 2015.  Mrs. Ross-Naess is typically a trend setter, so it will be interesting to see if her hyphenated last name increases the popularity of hyphenation with brides and newlyweds this year.  Hyphenation was trending downwards as a name change option in 2014, as many women elect to take their maiden names as middle names and forgo the mouthful hyphenations can create.

Whether you’re a celebrity or not, 2015 is a great year to make the transition to Mrs.  MissNowMrs.com is an easy online name change service & app that condense the 13 hour process into 30 minutes!  It’s a newlywed’s best option. Unless you have personal assistants!

Did Mila Kunis Change Her Name to Mrs. Kutcher?!

Kutchers Name Change
Will Mila Kunis Change Her Name?

We all know that Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are engaged and have an adorable daughter together….BUT they may have tied the knot over the holidays! Ashton posted a Happy New Year message from the Kutchers photo on his Facebook recently (see above). If they’re sharing a last name one could speculate that they’re legally married.

At age 31, Mila wasn’t my first pick for stars changing their names in 2015. Statically, the older a bride is when she gets married, the more likely she is to keep her maiden name in some way. As women whose names are tied to their profession are less likely to change their names after marriage, Mila’s star status would skew her towards keeping her last name of Kunis. I would venture that if Mila legally changes her name after marrying Ashton, she would be Mrs. Mila Kunis Kutcher (with her maiden name as a middle name). Maiden to middle name change is a trend that is continuing to gain popularity with U.S. newlyweds, regardless of celebrity status.
