Ginger Spice Opts to Change Her Name…How Nice!

Ginger spice

Former Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell, married Christian Horner in a lovely ceremony on May 15th.  Despite her reputation as ‘Ginger Spice’ the singer/celebrity is opting to take her husband’s name after marriage.  While honeymooning, the newlywed has already changed her name to Mrs. Geri Horner on her Instagram and Twitter accounts…so we’re assuming the legal name change will occur as soon as she returns home to England!

More and more female celebrities are bucking the Hollywood trend of hanging onto the maiden names their fans know them by.  Gerri Halliwell is joining the celebrity name change wave started by Amal Alamuddin’s name change, Angelina Jolie’s name change and Lady Gaga’s name change.  It’s sociologically interesting to see this shift in name change choice by women in the lime light and it will be equally interesting to see what impact their name change choices make on the choices of millennial brides.

Regardless of her name change choice, we wish Geri the very best as she begins newlywed life and would love if she used MissNowMrs.com to go from Miss to Mrs. in minutes!

Our easy online name change service asks a series of questions and then uses the answers to auto-complete name change forms for Social Security, the IRS, the State Department (for your updated passport), the United States Postal Service, Motor Vehicle Administrations, Voter Registration Offices and over 15 million creditors.  This service condenses 13 hours of name change hassle into 30 minutes of typing on your computer. But, we’re constantly innovating and improving at MissNowMrs headquarters.

As we contemplated what else we could add to accounts or do to make our client’s experience that much better/simpler we had a great idea: name change form labels.  Our online name change accounts now include labels to print with all of the appropriate office addresses as well as return address labels…making changing your name after marriage THAT much easier!

Lady Gaga Intends to Change Her Name After Marriage

Lady Gaga name change

Lady Gaga name change?! What’s this? Lady Gaga, who’s real name Stefani Germanotta, has announced that she will take fiancé Taylor Kinney’s last name after their marriage…making her the future Mrs. Stefani Kinney!  As a star know for her extreme fashion taste and publicity stunts, it is interesting to see her do something so conventional as change her maiden name to her maiden name.

The fact that Lady Gaga is 29 and a celebrity would skew her towards keeping her maiden name, but she has also been quoted as being “old fashioned” about love and she is technically known by her stage name.  Gaga is on the celebrity name-change train along with Angelina Jolie Pitt, Amal Clooney and Ashley Simpson.

Do the name change choices of these prominent women show an increased preference for women to change their names or are they in keeping with the fact that 88.6.% of U.S. women change their names after marriage?

It’s an interesting question, and I believe data is starting to show that the mindset of millennial brides is different from those of Gen X and Gen Y.  Many site the idea of changing their names as a way to show that they are “all in” in their marriages.

Curious how to change your name after marriage? The MissNowMrs app or online service can save you 13 hours of stress and hassle!

Married Name Change News in Nebraska

Newlywed in Nebraska and considering your married name change options?  You may want to wait a few months, as senator Sara Howard is proposing a few changes to the current state name change policy.  Currently couples in Nebraska have very limited name change options.  Only brides are able to change their names after marriage (using the married name change process) and they are unable to take their maiden names as their middle names.

Soon-to-be-married Senator Howard (her wedding is in October, and no she’s not opting to change her name) would like to make married name change more flexible for newlyweds in her state.  She’s proposing that men should be able to hyphenate last names with their spouse or take their spouse’s last name after marriage.  Senator Howard also wants to allow women in Nebraska to take their maiden names as their middle names, which is a very popular name-change trend in 2015.  These changes may take time, but eventually will allow a great deal more flexibility when it comes to picking a married name as a newlywed.

Curious what the best married name change option is for you?  Play the MarriedNameGame and let its patent-pending algorithm selection your ideal last name option(s), and rest assured that it also factors in your state’s laws around married name change options!

Married at First Sight’s Jamie Otis Changes Name

Did you hear about Married at First Sight’s Jamie Otis changes name? A year after her marriage, Jamie Otis took her spouse’s last name of Hehner.  Why did she choose to change her name after marriage?  Much like any other bride, Jamie had a few factors that influenced her name change decision.  Not knowing her father made her less attached to her maiden name, and therefore less inclined to keep it as a married woman.  She also cites that she wants to have the same last name as her children, when she has them.

Another interesting married name change factor: the “final commitment effect”, meaning her name change shows that she is completely committed to a relationship started on a socially experimental show: Married at First Sight.  More and more brides today are seeing married name change as a way to show that they’re “all in” in their marriages.  It’s an interesting new name change factor.  If you’re curious which married name option is right for you, try playing the MarriedNameGame!

We LOVE how Jamie surprised her husband with her name change on their anniversary!  She put her name change notification from Social Security in a small box and had him open it last.  He cried and she cried after he opened the box and realized they now shared a last name…how adorable is that?

Were you surprised to hear about Jamie Otis changes name? If so, let us know in a comment!
