Curious what an online name change service does? The service will also generate letters to notify over 15 million different companies/creditors of your new name.

The streamlining of the form completion coupled with detailed instructions that give you the file by mail option or the best times of day and days of the week to file in office save approximately 13 hours. You also get the peace of mind that ALL of the forms you need to file are completed. That’s 13 hours you can spend basking in newlywed bliss instead of standing in long government office lines!

Zoe Saldana’s Husband Changes His Last Name To Hers!

We love when celebrity’s husband changes his name to hers! Newlywed Marco Perego bucked name change tradition and took his lovely wife’s last name after their marriage. The new Mr. and Mrs. Zoe Saldana may be making news as celebrities who made an atypical name change choice, but more and more men are taking their spouse’s last name, hyphenating names or blending last names.

What does this new trend in men’s name change mean? Honestly, as a name change expert, I believe it means that couples are finally equal in each other’s eyes and name change has nothing to do with ownership. Many of our client’s are citing the concept of name change showing that they’re “all in” in their marriage and I love that sentiment!  No one should change their name against their will (man or woman), but name change can be an expression of love.

If you are a newlywed man interested in taking your spouse’s last name, the state you live in dictates the process you can use to change to your married name. Men who live in California, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York or North Dakota can used the married name change process to change their names (as these states recognize a man’s right to change his name based on marriage). If you do not live in one of the listed states, you will need to petition the US court system for a legal name change order and then file the appropriate paperwork to affect your new name.

Currently, California is the only state that allows couples to blend their last names using the married name change process. **The catch is you must list that blended name when you apply for your marriage license. Talking about name change pre-wedding is something I always advise. You may surprise each other with your views and ideas (in a good way).

Curious what name change option or options are right for you and your spouse? Play the MarriedNameGame and let its patent pending algorithm generate your perfect married name! Also, if you have a friend who’s husband changes his name to hers, we’d love to hear your story in a comment!

Married Name Change News in Nebraska

Newlywed in Nebraska and considering your married name change options?  You may want to wait a few months, as senator Sara Howard is proposing a few changes to the current state name change policy.  Currently couples in Nebraska have very limited name change options.  Only brides are able to change their names after marriage (using the married name change process) and they are unable to take their maiden names as their middle names.

Soon-to-be-married Senator Howard (her wedding is in October, and no she’s not opting to change her name) would like to make married name change more flexible for newlyweds in her state.  She’s proposing that men should be able to hyphenate last names with their spouse or take their spouse’s last name after marriage.  Senator Howard also wants to allow women in Nebraska to take their maiden names as their middle names, which is a very popular name-change trend in 2015.  These changes may take time, but eventually will allow a great deal more flexibility when it comes to picking a married name as a newlywed.

Curious what the best married name change option is for you?  Play the MarriedNameGame and let its patent-pending algorithm selection your ideal last name option(s), and rest assured that it also factors in your state’s laws around married name change options!

Is Keeping Your Maiden Name a Huge Mistake?

Keeping Your Maiden Name

Considering keeping your maiden name? In the controversial world of married name change there is much debate around whether a woman should change her name after marriage.  In the whirlwind of debate there are the multiple choices of names that a married woman can opt to take.

Name change is a personal decision for every bride, and she should weigh all the factors that are important to her and her name now and in the future to avoid making a mistake that can last for decades.

Many women punt on the married name change decision and wait a few years or until they’re pregnant to make a choice.  While that may take the pressure off as a newlywed, it intensifies the pressure into a 9 month block later in life.  Consider how important it is to you to have the same name as your child or children.

Does it matter that you may need to explain your marital status and mis-matched names at various schools and social functions?  Do you think your kids will feel less connected as a family if they have your spouse’s last name and you use your maiden name?  Again, the choice is very much up to you and how you feel.

I recently read an article about a mother lamenting keeping her maiden name.  It’s rare to have a window into another person’s feelings about their name and name-change choices, so I was intrigued.  If you want to know why one mom feels that keeping her maiden name was a huge mistake, read Jill Simonian’s story. The main takeaway from her story is that “My name doesn’t match the people that are most important to me, which makes me sad, guilty, confused and scared.”  Those are big emotions, so take a moment and make sure that you won’t feel similarly if you keep your maiden name.

If you do decide that changing your name after marriage is the right choice for you and your (future) family don’t waste 13 hours standing in long office lines.  Use the MissNowMrs easy online name change service or app to go from Miss to Mrs. in a matter of minutes!

4 Indoor Newlywed Activities To Do When It’s FREEZING!

indoor newlywed activities

Looking for newlywed indoor activities? No matter how hot your newlywed love may be it is FREEZING outside!  The approaching winter storm may end up canceling your weekend plans…leaving you stuck at home.  Not to worry!  Here are 4 activities to keep you from climbing the walls this weekend.

1.  Movie Marathon – Start with your wedding video (awww) and then alternate between your #1 favorite movie and your spouses’ #1 favorite movie and #2 and so on.  The mix may be amusing (ex: Breakfast at Tiffanys followed by Naked Gun), but you’ll learn more about each other and get to cuddle on the couch all day!  *Don’t forget to stock up on popcorn and movie treats.

2. Feather Your Nest- You know all the projects you keep meaning to do around the house?  Things like replacing handles, hanging shelves and painting accent walls?  Make the most of being homebound and bang out your house to-do list.  It may require a few trips to Home Deport or Lowes prior to the storm, but when the snow finally melts you’ll be finished with your indoor projects and have more time to spend enjoying the spring weather.

3. Be Kids for the Day – Sleep in, eat pop tarts, watch cartoons and then pull out board games and video games to wile away the afternoon in your PJs.  Disconnecting from all of your adult worries and stresses can make for an incredibly fun adventure at home.

4. Plan Your Next Vacation – There’s nothing better to counteract arctic temperatures than researching tropical destinations!  Consider doing your research separately and then sharing your top locations and ideas over tropical cocktails. You’ll find out exactly what each of you looks for in a vacation from location to activities to the type of resort.  Added bonus: you’ll be ahead of other vacationers when it comes to booking discounted flights and travel deals!

What indoor newlywed activities are keeping you busy this winter? We’d love for you to share them in a comment!
