PA Maiden to Middle Name Change After Marriage Update!

PA Maiden to Middle Name Change

Attention Pennsylvania brides and newlyweds: we have a PA maiden to middle name update! You now have the right to change your maiden name to your middle name, after marriage! After several years of saying “no”, the PA DMV has recently updated their position on maiden to middle name change.  As long as you file certain forms ahead of your state driver’s license and bring specific forms of ID showing your maiden name as your middle name, you can now take your maiden name on your PA driver’s license without going through the legal name change process. Whoohoo!

The PA DMV will allow maiden to middle name change after marriage, IF you can show a Social Security card with your maiden name as a middle name and 2 of the following forms of ID with that same name: voter registration, passport, tax records or any form or government issued photo IDs.  So as long as you  file for your new SS card and your other forms of ID and wait to receive them before you file for your PA driver’s license, you’ll have no issues changing your middle name in Pennsylvania!

Interested in taking your maiden name as their middle name?  The MissNowMrs name change app and service can save you 13 hours of hassle!

Bachelorette parties…the words bring to mind fun, friend-filled events that celebrate a bride’s last hurrah! Depending on the bride, the party can range from an intimate spa day to a full blown Vegas frenzy. As newlyweds, we all know that the planning and props make or break a bachelorette party and finding tasteful, high quality items is hard to do.

Enter The House of Bachelorette, this website is the brain child of Steph Storms. A former purchaser for Sears and White House Black Market, Steph was really frustrated by the skeevy websites and poor quality items she found when planning a friends bachelorette party. Her solution: create a fun female friendly website full of high quality items for bachelorette parties of all variations. They have everything from custom rhinestone sashes to wedding ring shot glasses (my personal favorite)! So, the next time you’re planning a bachelorette party for a friend you now know the ultimate place to shop!

First Name & Last Name Change After Marriage:The Full Scoop

First Name & Last Name Change

First name & last name change… who does that?! The internet is a buzz with the news of Fergie changing her name.  Lots of women change their last names to their spouse’s, but Fergie is famous and is changing her first name as well as her last name.  The starlet will go from Stacy Ann Ferguson to Fergie Duhamel.

Our support team handles numerous questions from brides inquiring if they can change their first name while changing their last name after marriage, so here’s the scoop: MissNowMrs would love to assist you with your name change, but can only help you with a middle* or last name change via the married name change process.  To change your first name, you will need to petition the U.S. court system for a legal name change order.

Many brides don’t want to deal with the hassle of legal name change, which includes being fingerprinted and posting ads in newspapers announcing your intended name change.  Others really hate their first names (seriously who names a child Agnes or Mildred?) or have been using a different name for the majority of their life.

If you fall into the latter category, like Fergie, we suggest checking out our legal name change partner Legal Zoom to make the process easier.

*Please note that brides in CA, PA, WA, NJ and OH do not have the option to take their maiden name as a middle name per state law.

Wedding Checks: 4 Newlywed Tips for Depositing Without Hassle!

Wedding Checks - How to Deposit without hassle

As your wedding day approaches, gifts from family and friends begin pouring in…hooray! You’ll also start receiving wedding checks. Monetary gifts are wonderful, as they allow you to purchase exactly what you want/need for married life, but they can occasionally cause trouble at the bank.

Well-meaning relatives LOVE to write checks to Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Which is great, if you’re planning to change your name to Jones, but what if you’re hyphenating or not changing your name after marriage, or if your spouse is taking your name?

Name change does make cashing
wedding checks tricky

However, if you both set up a joint bank account before your wedding, most banks will allow you to sign the checks and deposit them regardless of what versions of your names appear on the check. If a check is made out to both you and your spouse, then when you are depositing checks with two names, make sure that you both sign the back of it.

If you run into a clerk that is a stickler for the rules, you can wait to deposit the check until you can present a certified copy of your marriage certificate. The other solution? Use the ATM machine to deposit your checks. I deposited wedding checks written to my maiden, married and misspelled last names with zero issues!

Also keep in mind that in most cases you do not need to pay taxes on when depositing wedding checks.

Wedding Check Deposit Tips:

1. Create a joint bank account BEFORE your wedding
2. If a wedding check is made out to both of you, make sure that you both sign it before depositing
3. You can use your certified marriage certificate to deposit checks made out to your married name
4. When all else fails…use the ATM machine for your wacky wedding check deposits!

3 Dessert Recipes that Guarantee a Fantastic Fourth of July!

Looking for Fourth of July dessert recipes? One of my all-time favorite holidays is the Fourth of July!  No major family expectations to live up to as newlyweds (like Thanksgiving or Christmas), just fun with friends celebrating our country’s independence with food and fireworks. Whether you’re throwing your first BBQ as newlyweds or attending someone else’s shin-dig, here are 3 awesome recipes for Fourth of July treats!

Quick & Easy – Jello Fire Cracker Shots are tiny red white and blue mouthfuls of fun…with or without alcohol.  If you’re stumped on what to bring to a friend’s BBQ, you honestly can’t go wrong with this recipe. It took me all of 30 minutes to complete and they look exactly like the photo on the recipe.  P.S. they’re also incredibly budget friendly (2 boxes of jello, milk and an envelope of unflavored gelatin)!

Ready to Impress – Are you confident in the kitchen and looking for the ultimate Fourth of July dessert to wow guests?  This American Flag Cake looks amazing and difficult, but if you study the recipe it all comes down to how you layer colored cakes to make every slice a piece of patriot pride (seriously…every slice looks like an American flag…check out the photo above)!

Healthy Choice – Trying to avoid gaining the newlywed 15?  This recipe for an angel food cake layered with lemon curd and berries is low in calories but high in taste. It’s also quick to assemble and can even be done with a store-bought cake!

However you spend Fourth of July this year, count yourself blessed to be celebrating independence with the person you chose to love and marry! What dessert recipes will you be using? Please share in a comment!
