Married Name Change & Voting | What You Need to Know

Married Name Change & Voting

Today’s the day for midterm election voting and women all over the United States are lining up to cast their votes.  If you’re newlywed and in the process of changing your name, this may affect your voter experience.  Where you are in the process and which forms you filed when will determine which name you can vote under. We’ve got the scoop on married name change & voting.

If you’ve filed a voter registration form to update your name, you should be able to vote under your new married name.  That is as long as you filed that form two or more weeks ago. The voter registration office needs time to process your request and amend their digital records.  If you haven’t filed a voter registration form, but did update your name on your state driver’s license check the form you completed.  Many states have a section on their driver’s license forms that allow you to update your voter information along with your license/ID.

If you have yet to file any of your name change forms, you should vote under your maiden name. Or vote with the name currently listed on your voter registration card. Confused?  A quick call to your state voter registration office can clarify which name you’re voting under.

Now that you know the ins and outs of Married Name Change & Voting. Whatever your political party and name change status, go rock the vote ladies. It’s a right that our predecessors fought for!

Newlywed Resources | 6 Products & Services You Need After I Do

We have a great list of services you need after I do. In the midst of wedding planning, brides are often inundated with products, services and things that they “need” to create the perfect day.  Every time you open your email or mailbox there are a host of advertisements for items intended to make your wedding amazing.  The deluge can be so large that it actually ends up being irritating!

Conversely, as newlyweds we’re pretty much left to figure things out for ourselves.  There aren’t any helpful emails with lists of newlywed to-dos and helpful products to ensure wedding bliss.  Not to worry, after much thought and research, I’ve compiled the six products and services that every newlywed couple needs (some of which you would never think of but are absolutely essential).

Feel free to send me a custom thank you note after you peruse the list…or leave a comment suggesting your favorite newlywed service or product!

Top Fall Engagement, Wedding & Anniversary Photo Ideas

Anniversary Photo Ideas

Fall is here bringing a new season as well as amazing opportunities for anniversary photo ideas, engagement photo ideas, and wedding photo ideas!  It is important to capture your love at any stage of your relationship and these top photo ideas will have you enjoying the season and each other even more this season!

Leaf Kisses: Whether you’re capturing an engagement, wedding or anniversary kiss, leaves fluttering around you is a great way to celebrate the Fall season and add motion and visual interest to your photos.  Word to the wise…this is nearly impossible if you’re taking “selfies”.  Ideally you need a photographer and someone to toss the leaves at the perfect moment.

Pumpkins + Rings: We adore wedding bangs placed on pumpkin stems.  White pumpkins are more elegant but orange pumpkins add great color contrast.  If you’re feeling crafty you can paint or carve your wedding date on the pumpkin before snapping your photo.  A flower girl or ring bearer holding the pumpkin would be another fantastic photo to capture.

Apples: Incorporating apples into photos always adds a Fall element.  You could do an engagement shoot in an orchard or an anniversary photo sipping apple cider at sunset.

Celebrate Becoming Mr. and Mrs!

Don’t forget to celebrate becoming Mr. and Mrs! October is the second biggest wedding month of the year…meaning the number of those new to the names of Mr. and Mrs. will dramatically increase by November! As you both relax from the lack of wedding planning and begin your newlywed journey together, don’t forget to celebrate your new statuses. Remember, you have exactly twelve months from when you said “I do” to live it up as newlyweds!

It is completely appropriate to wear Mr. and Mrs. apparel, eat ice cream out of his and hers bowls and indulge in any other silly yet fun newlywed antics. People can’t help but smile at your newlywed glow and enthusiasm… so brighten the day of those married for years and inspire the dreams of those yet to be engaged!

This newlywed year is also a great time to keep separate journals or a joint love journal.  You can record all of your “firsts’ as a married couple as well as your hopes and dreams for the future together.  It will be special now and a true treasure when you celebrate your golden anniversary in 50 years.

Go Apple Picking – Wait for a crisp fall morning and head to a local orchard.  You can spend the day picking apples together (hello photo op) and then come home and either eat them fresh or use them for pies or applesauce. Unsure where to go?  Use this resource to locate an orchard in your state.

Attend a Football Game – Whether you opt for your local college/high school team or a professional team, get geared up and go to a football game.  There’s nothing like cheering together and then snuggling under a quilt in the stands for building Fall memories together.  Eat fun treats, enjoy the halftime show and head home knowing you didn’t miss out on a timeless Fall tradition.

Carve a Pumpkin – Remember making jack-o-lanterns as kids?  Guest what? It’s still fun as an adult (especially if you add cocktails)!  Stop by a local pumpkin stand or simply go to the grocery store to select your perfect gourd.  You can have a competition to see who carves the best face or work as a team on a more elaborate design to grace your table.  Either way, you’re guaranteed to have a good time.

Enjoy The Leaves – Take a walk through a park or plan a drive through gorgeous section of fall foliage.  Admiring the beauty of the season is good for you souls.  An alternate way to make the most of fall is to rake leaf piles in your yard and jump in them or use them to fuel a bonfire.
