First Name & Last Name Change After Marriage:The Full Scoop

First Name & Last Name Change

First name & last name change… who does that?! The internet is a buzz with the news of Fergie changing her name.  Lots of women change their last names to their spouse’s, but Fergie is famous and is changing her first name as well as her last name.  The starlet will go from Stacy Ann Ferguson to Fergie Duhamel.

Our support team handles numerous questions from brides inquiring if they can change their first name while changing their last name after marriage, so here’s the scoop: MissNowMrs would love to assist you with your name change, but can only help you with a middle* or last name change via the married name change process.  To change your first name, you will need to petition the U.S. court system for a legal name change order.

Many brides don’t want to deal with the hassle of legal name change, which includes being fingerprinted and posting ads in newspapers announcing your intended name change.  Others really hate their first names (seriously who names a child Agnes or Mildred?) or have been using a different name for the majority of their life.

If you fall into the latter category, like Fergie, we suggest checking out our legal name change partner Legal Zoom to make the process easier.

*Please note that brides in CA, PA, WA, NJ and OH do not have the option to take their maiden name as a middle name per state law.

Miss to Mrs

Miss to Mrs

How exciting is the transition from Miss to Mrs?! Getting married is an amazing event that changes your life and many times your last name. I saw this Mrs. necklace on Pinterest and couldn’t help but share it on the newlywed blog! Could there be a more adorable gift for a bridal shower or anniversary gift?

Leave it to Kate Spade to come up with a classy and stylish way to commemorate making the transition from Miss to Mrs…I only wish the necklace came in rose gold!

Is this bauble something you wish your spouse had surprised you with or something you may “gift yourself” after you legally change your last name? Perhaps you could mention that a particular jewelry purchase would incentivize you to take the plunge into name change…hint…hint!
If you are planning to change your name, let MissNowMrs save you countless hours of stress and hassle. We’ll help you go from Miss to Mrs. in a matter of minutes!

Wedding Checks: 4 Newlywed Tips for Depositing Without Hassle!

Wedding Checks - How to Deposit without hassle

New Spouse, New Name, New Journey: Embrace Your New Married Life.

Ready for a New Name? Order Now!

As your wedding day approaches, gifts from family and friends begin pouring in…hooray! You’ll also start receiving wedding checks. Monetary gifts are wonderful, as they allow you to purchase exactly what you want/need for married life, but they can occasionally cause trouble at the bank.

Well-meaning relatives LOVE to write checks to Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Which is great, if you’re planning to change your name to Jones, but what if you’re hyphenating or not changing your name after marriage, or if your spouse is taking your name?

Name change does make cashing
wedding checks tricky

However, if you both set up a joint bank account before your wedding, most banks will allow you to sign the checks and deposit them regardless of what versions of your names appear on the check. If a check is made out to both you and your spouse, then when you are depositing checks with two names, make sure that you both sign the back of it.

If you run into a clerk that is a stickler for the rules, you can wait to deposit the check until you can present a certified copy of your marriage certificate. The other solution? Use the ATM machine to deposit your checks. I deposited wedding checks written to my maiden, married and misspelled last names with zero issues!

Also keep in mind that in most cases you do not need to pay taxes on when depositing wedding checks.

Wedding Check Deposit Tips:

1. Create a joint bank account BEFORE your wedding
2. If a wedding check is made out to both of you, make sure that you both sign it before depositing
3. You can use your certified marriage certificate to deposit checks made out to your married name
4. When all else fails…use the ATM machine for your wacky wedding check deposits!

3 Dessert Recipes that Guarantee a Fantastic Fourth of July!

Looking for Fourth of July dessert recipes? One of my all-time favorite holidays is the Fourth of July!  No major family expectations to live up to as newlyweds (like Thanksgiving or Christmas), just fun with friends celebrating our country’s independence with food and fireworks. Whether you’re throwing your first BBQ as newlyweds or attending someone else’s shin-dig, here are 3 awesome recipes for Fourth of July treats!

Quick & Easy – Jello Fire Cracker Shots are tiny red white and blue mouthfuls of fun…with or without alcohol.  If you’re stumped on what to bring to a friend’s BBQ, you honestly can’t go wrong with this recipe. It took me all of 30 minutes to complete and they look exactly like the photo on the recipe.  P.S. they’re also incredibly budget friendly (2 boxes of jello, milk and an envelope of unflavored gelatin)!

Ready to Impress – Are you confident in the kitchen and looking for the ultimate Fourth of July dessert to wow guests?  This American Flag Cake looks amazing and difficult, but if you study the recipe it all comes down to how you layer colored cakes to make every slice a piece of patriot pride (seriously…every slice looks like an American flag…check out the photo above)!

Healthy Choice – Trying to avoid gaining the newlywed 15?  This recipe for an angel food cake layered with lemon curd and berries is low in calories but high in taste. It’s also quick to assemble and can even be done with a store-bought cake!

However you spend Fourth of July this year, count yourself blessed to be celebrating independence with the person you chose to love and marry! What dessert recipes will you be using? Please share in a comment!

Best Bachelorette Party Idea We’ve Heard in Years!

Best Bachelorette Party Idea

Are you ready to read about the best bachelorette party idea?! As brides-to-be or newlyweds, most of us are at that time in our lives when virtually all of our friends (and their friends) are getting engaged. While it is amazing to watch friends meet and marry the loves of their lives, these events happening en mass can be a little overwhelming. Especially if you you begin to factor in each bride having an engagement party, bachelorette party, bridal shower(s) and of course a rehearsal dinner and wedding!

I love to throw a party, probably more than your average newlywed, but as you plan and/or host a multitude of wedding events for friends, you can run out of ideas. No one was to give their friend a boring run of the mill soiree, so what’s a girl to do? Get down on your knees and thank God for the invention of Pinterest!

While skimming through their site today, I ran across the most unique and fun bachelorette party theme I’ve seen in years. This concept appeals to the less girly of your friends who wants “something different” to celebrate her upcoming marriage. Have all the attendees purchase the ugliest bridesmaid dress GoodWill has to offer and then have a paintball fight while wearing them. The photos will be HILARIOUS and AMAZING (see above)!

Regardless of what theme(s) you choose for your friends’ parties, remember to enjoy this phase of your life.  There is so much love to celebrate and there will only be a brief respite before….baby showers start happening!

Thanks to BrideTideBlog for pinning the photo that gave me the idea for the best bachelorette party idea.
